Hotel am See, Rust (Austria)

The “Hotel am See Rust” is a modern seminar and holiday hotel on Lake Neusiedl in Austria. In the entire new building, the seminar and breakfast area and in the rooms, the hotel relies on
electric heating with infrared heat.

The engineering office Groß realised the project together with ETHERMA. The entire new building with rooms, breakfast area and seminar room was to be heated with electric infrared heat.

The installation of the heating on the ceiling is particularly advantageous due to the homogeneous distribution of the infrared heat. Heating from the ceiling in the seminar area has another advantage: the challenge is often that larger rooms and areas need to be heated, but you don‘t know where to place the heating elements. In this case, heating from the ceiling is ideal, the space is optimally utilised and subsequent damage to the heater is avoided. In the entrance area of a hotel, there is the additional challenge that the doors never remain closed for long. This is of course desirable for a well-running hotel, but a challenge for heating, as the entrance area in the hotel should still be inviting and at a good temperature.

Zone heating from above in the form of electric infrared heating is ideal for entrance areas. Even if the door is repeatedly opened, the radiant heat from the infrared heater keeps it pleasantly warm. A draught cannot harm the infrared radiation, because when infrared heat hits our skin, it immediately triggers a pleasant sensation of warmth. This is why it is also known as ‘heat radiation’. Infrared heaters are based on this principle of direct heat – just like the sun.

The radiant heat does not primarily heat the air. Instead, the ceiling, walls, objects and people absorb the radiant heat. The surroundings store the heat and release it back into the room (= secondary radiation).

The LAVA® BASIC 3.0 infrared panels were also installed on the ceiling in the seminar and breakfast areas and in the rooms. This means that nothing stands in the way of homogeneous, pleasant warmth – without any loss of space on the walls.

In order to be able to control the electric infrared heating from ETHERMA perfectly, a smart control system using KNX was used here.

120 Bathrooms fitted with infrared heating (De State Hillegersberg, Rotterdam – NL)

De State Hillegersberg in Rotterdam is to become a sustainable building that meets the very latest standards whilst offering a high standard of living comfort. De State Hillegersberg is therefore being made completely future-proof. The aim is to create a sustainable building based on the reuse of materials and the use of as many natural materials as possible.

In this care complex, residents requiring care can make use of a sophisticated, adapted bathroom. These bathrooms have been carefully designed and adapted for residents with either simple or complex care needs. To ensure optimum warmth, 120 bathrooms are fitted with an infrared panel featuring a smart thermostat. This infrared panel ensures the bathroom is heated evenly, resulting in hygienic, clean heat.

The De State Hillegersberg care complex is a functional building, but it no longer met the modern requirements and standards expected of buildings today. The heating solution of ETHERMA was installed in the Care Home and Rehabilitation department (short-term care).

The ETC thermal cassette is suitable as unobtrusive heating for offices, swimming pools, schools and so on. Mounted against the ceiling or within a suspended ceiling, the units are ideally suited as primary heating or workplace heating. When installed in suspended ceilings, the infrared panel becomes an integral part of the ceiling.
